Applications for the 2027 Grant Cycle of NHTSA Funds
The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) is
NOT YET accepting applications for Law Enforcement and Non-Law Enforcement traffic safety grants for the FFY2027 cycle.
Who can submit an application?
Examples of eligible organizations include:
- Local Law Enforcement Agencies (Police Department, Sheriff Office)
- State Law Enforcement Agencies
- Health Departments
What are NHTSA Highway Safety Funds?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) provides grant funds for improving highway safety. The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) is the administrator of the NHTSA grant funds in Kentucky. This funding can provide (for example):
- overtime pay for officers
- resources for child passenger safety seat inspection
- resources for improving traffic records systems
When can agencies submit an application?
NOT YET but very soon.
Where can agencies submit their applications?
The KOHS uses an online application and claim submission system.
Why are these grants available?
The NHTSA funds are awarded to sub-grantees thru KOHS:
- to help reduce crashes, injuries, fatalities and associated cost
- by identifying transportation safety issues and developing implementing effective integrated programs and activities.
How do I submit an application?
Once you have a user account in the system:
- On your Home page, go to the My Opportunities panel.
- Click on the link to the appropriate type of application for your agency and proposal.
- Follow the dialog boxes.
Once you have started an application in the system, you can return to it later using the My Tasks panel on your home screen.
The application will walk you through several screens/pages:
- Problem Statement
- Data
- Goals/Objectives
- Tasks/Activities/Milestones
- Budget
- Plans for Cost Sharing
How do these grants work?
Grants reimburse actual costs to grantees that they have incurred and paid during the grant cycle.
