Interstate 65 in Louisville will close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) from June 1- July 31 to speed progress on replacing 3 aging bridges.
The closure will save at least a year of construction restrictions, and a signed detour will be in place. Local street closures and ramp closures will also be needed.

Screenshot 2025-01-16 125141.png

Purpose
This project involves the replacement of the bridge on I-264 (Georgia Davis Powers Expressway) over the P&L Railroad between Campground Road and KY 1934 (Cane Run Road). The existing structure, in service for nearly 50 years, will undergo a full replacement of all major structural elements.

This project aims to improve safety and operational efficiency on the I-264 bridge over the section of P&L Railroad that exists between Camp Ground Road and KY 1934 (Cane Run Road). The bridge replacement project will be completed while maintaining traffic on I-264. No residential properties will be impacted, but traffic impacts are possible on I-264 during construction.
Project Scope
Replacement of the entire bridge structure, including abutments and piers. No residential properties will be impacted, and traffic will be maintained on I-264.

The existing typical section for the I-264 bridge over the P&L Railroad is depicted below. The new bridge will have a similar lane configuration, with the replacement of structural components. These improvements are geared towards enhancing safety for drivers in Jefferson County.
