Purpose

To provide the traveling public with a safe facility that meets current design standards.  The goals for this project are:

  • To improve safety and reduce crashes.
  • To improve the capacity and the level of service of the roadway.
  • To accommodate the forecasted increase in automotive and commercial truck traffic on KY 245.
Project Scope

Widen KY 245 to 4 lanes with left turn lanes beginning at the easternmost I-65 ramp terminals to a point 1120 feet east of Happy Hollow Road (Jim Beam entrance).

Build a 10-foot wide asphalt paved multi-use path connecting the Bernheim walking trail on the south side of KY 245 to the Bernheim Bike Hike Trail on the north side of KY 245 with a new pedestrian underpass.

Selected Alternative
(from 2008 Public Input)

The selected alternative, Alternate 2, widens the road to the south side of the existing highway. It provides 4 lanes of travel with a mix of:

  • 20-foot grass-raised median with left-turn bays and
  • Two-way left-turn median.
