Interstate 71 Widening

This project is now part of the I-Move Kentucky project. Please visit i-moveky.com for more details!

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is in the design phase of a project to widen Interstate 71 between Interstate 265 in Jefferson County and KY 329 in Oldham County.  One lane would be added in each direction to make I-71 a 6-lane facility. The existing highway has a 60-foot grass median between I-265 and the Jefferson/Oldham County line. The interstate bifurcates - maximum width of about 600 feet - between the county line and KY 329. The existing median width for the project limits is adequate to provide widening to the inside for additional travel lanes and required shoulder width. This project will also upgrade the outside clear zone to meet current federal criteria.

A public meeting was held on October 1, 2015 to present this information to area residents and motorists.  Approximately 45 people attended this meeting at Springdale Community Church, 4601 Springdale Road in Louisville.

The public meeting displays, handout and comment form are provided to the right under Supporting Documents. The public meeting comment form can be downloaded and mailed to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 5 Office, 8310 Westport Road, Louisville KY 40242. Comments will be accepted until November 2, 2015. Please contact the project manager, Chuck Berger, if you have any questions (502-210-5411 or chuck.berger@ky.gov ). Thanks in advance for your help.
