Below are scholarship opportunities, resources for the classroom, engineering exposure opportunities, and career opportunities with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES​  
The Construction Management Scholarship Program provides graduates with the opportunity to work on various infrastructure projects around the state in construction, highway and structural design, traffic and more.  The scholarship is worth over $59,000 for a bachelor's degree in Construction Management.

Civil Engineering Scholarship Program

Since 1948, the Kentucky Transportation Civil Engineering Scholarship Program has provided highly qualified individuals to fill the needs and improve the overall engineering expertise within the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The Cabinet has awarded nearly 1,800 scholarships, amounting to more than $14 million. The Cabinet has 80 scholarship openings each year that are filled with new and returning students. One scholarship can be worth over $59,000.

Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet currently employs over 620 technicians working in the areas of administration, construction, environmental analysis, highway and structural design, geotechnical, maintenance, materials, planning, and traffic operations. Since 2009, the Kentucky Transportation Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program has provided 12 scholarships per year to new and returning students, filling the Cabinet's needs for technicians in the areas mentioned above. One scholarship can be worth up to $14,800 ($3,700 per semester)

Bridging Opportunities Training Program

 
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Bridging Opportunities Training Program (BOT​P) provides career opportunities, formal mentoring, and hands-on experiences to traditionally under-represented groups.  It is designed specifically for undergraduates and graduates of Kentucky colleges and universities.
 
 

Department of Highways Co-ops/Internships 

The Department of Highways offers co-op and internship opportunities for high school students (at least 17 years of age), high school graduates, and college students in a variety of occupational fields.

Transportation Mechanic Apprenticeship Program

 
The Transportation Mechanic Apprenticeship Program (TMAP) provides paid, practical, hands-on experience at the local level of the Department of Highways. Designed for students currently enrolled in an Automotive or Diesel Technology Program through the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), participants can earn a nationally recognized credential as an “Automotive Technician Specialist Apprentice” in addition to a college degree. The Transportation Mechanic Apprenticeship Program meets national standards for registration with the U.S. Department of Labor and the Kentucky Office of Apprenticeship.

OUTREACH




The Kentucky Engineering Exposure Network (KEEN) connects students in grades K through 12 to the world of engineering. 

The KEEN Program provides KYTC Engineers to visit schools throughout the state to discuss the applications of math and science in real-world situations. They provide insights into the opportunities and challenges available to students pursuing studie​s in the field of engineering.

June 2023 marked the 75th year of the Transportation Cabinet’s Civil Engineering Scholarship Program.  The program has been the primary pipeline to recruit talented engineers and has continuously improved since its inception in 1948.
