I-65 lane closures in Jefferson County for inspection of the Kennedy Bridge

Louisville, KY (August 11, 2018) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists of lane closures next week on Interstate 65 in Jefferson County. Inspectors from KYTC and a consultant engineering firm will be performing a biennial inspection of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge which carries I-65 South over the Ohio River.

This bridge inspection is scheduled for the week of August 13. Inspectors will be using rope access techniques to climb the bridge eliminating the need for full lane closures. Brief "rolling" lane closures on I-65 South are possible between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. when crews are dropping off personnel and equipment. This type of lane closure will also be utilized one day during the week for inspection of the bridge deck.

In case of inclement weather or other unforeseen delays, this work on the Kennedy Bridge will continue during the week of August 20. Inspection of the Abraham Lincoln Bridge is scheduled for the week of September 4.

Stantec of Lexington, Ky. will be performing both inspections which are conducted every two years.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.  Visit goky.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  You can also get traffic information for the District 5 counties at facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5 and twitter.com/KYTCDistrict5 .
