Interstate 65 in Louisville will close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) from June 1- July 31 to speed progress on replacing 3 aging bridges.
The closure will save at least a year of construction restrictions, and a signed detour will be in place. Local street closures and ramp closures will also be needed.

Contract awarded for roadway maintenance in Henry County

Louisville, KY (Sept. 8, 2017) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) recently awarded a contract for roadway maintenance on three routes in Henry County. Work is scheduled to begin next week applying a preventative maintenance treatment on KY 1359 (Hillspring Road).

This work involves application of a cost-effective treatment, known as a scrub seal, to extend the life of the pavement. It protects an aging pavement surface and seals up the small cracks to keep water out of the pavement. This treatment will be installed on KY 1359 (Hillspring Road) from KY 22 to KY 241 (mile markers 0.0 to 2.8).

The scrub seal is an application of a chip seal followed by a light layer of oil, commonly known as a fog seal. The chip seal begins with an asphalt emulsion sprayed on the roadway followed by a layer of coarse stone spread evenly over the emulsion. This portion of the application is left in place for a few days to allow the stone to set and for open traffic to further seat the aggregate materials into the emulsion. After the curing period, the fog seal is sprayed to further lock the aggregate into the pavement.

Two other routes in Henry County will be resurfaced as part of this contract. These roads are KY 322 (McCoun Road) between the Henry/Shelby County line and KY 1861 and KY 1606 (Fallen Timber Road) between Kavanaugh Lane and Eddie Road.

Ohio Valley Asphalt was awarded this contract in the amount of $417,433. Work on all routes is scheduled for completion by November 30, 2017.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.  Visit goky.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  You can also get traffic information for the District 5 counties at facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5 and twitter.com/KYTCDistrict5 .
