Contract Awarded for Repair Work of I-265 West Ramp in Jefferson County
Exit from KY 61 closed until repairs are made
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 10, 2020) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises the public of the awarding of a contract for repair work on the ramp from KY 61 (Preston Highway) to I-265 West (Gene Snyder Freeway) in Jefferson County. The ramp was closed last month after advanced pier deterioration was found during a routine inspection. The repair work will be performed as part of a new master agreement with Jave LLC of Lexington.
Jave LLC will design the temporary support system and perform the pier repair, as well as coordinate the manufacturing of the bearing replacement needed for the work. New customized bearings for the bridge must be fabricated in off-site facilities, however manufacturing may be prolonged due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After materials are completed and delivered, on-site work will begin. It is anticipated that on-site work should begin in 10-12 weeks. It is estimated that all repairs should be complete by Early October 2020. Motorists in the area of the bridge may see workers on site intermittently prior to on-site work beginning.
Drivers can continue to take the following detour:
KY 61 North (Preston Highway) to I-265 East to Smyrna Road (Exit 14) to reconnect with I-265 West
The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
