Improvements coming to three intersections in Jefferson County
Louisville, KY (May 30, 2019) – Construction is underway for improvements at three intersections in Jefferson County. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) recently awarded a contract for enhancements on Grade Lane at KY 61 (Preston Highway), KY 1065 (Outer Loop) at KY 1865 (New Cut Road), and US 31W (Dixie Highway) at Pendleton Road.
Work began recently to reconfigure the turning lanes on Grade Lane at Preston Highway. The result will include two right turn lanes and one left turn lane from Grade Lane onto Preston Highway. The existing traffic signal will be realigned with the new traffic pattern. The project includes installation of new crosswalks and a pedestrian refuge island on Grade Lane. Improvements will also be made to the sidewalk ramps, pavement markings and signs at this intersection.
Crews are also working on construction of a right turn lane from the Outer Loop onto New Cut Road. The existing traffic signal will be replaced with a new system. Other enhancements at this location include sidewalk ramps, curbs, and guardrails.
Later this summer, drainage improvements will be constructed at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Pendleton Road. Various striping improvements will be added including a "DO NOT STOP IN BOX" marking on southbound Dixie Highway. This marking will help with access from Pendleton Road.
The majority of this work will occur during daytime hours. Lane closures are prohibited during the peak traffic hours of 6 – 9 am and 3 – 6 pm on weekdays.
Mac Construction was awarded this contract for $811,000. Construction is scheduled for completion by October 2019.
