Interstate 65 lane closures for paving in Jefferson County October 19-21
Louisville, KY (Oct. 18, 2018) – Paving work continues this weekend on the Interstate 65 resurfacing project in Jefferson County between Fern Valley Road and I-264 (Watterson Expressway), mile markers 127.5 to 131.2. Multiple lane closures will be in place on I-65 North for milling and resurfacing of this highway.
Lane closures are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 with crews milling and paving between Grade Lane and I-264. I-65 North will be reduced to one lane during this phase of work. Traffic will be diverted to the collector/distributor lanes at the I-65/I-264 interchange (Exit 131). Paving work in this section of the project is anticipated to be completed by noon on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The exit ramp from I-264 West to I-65 North (Exit 12) will be reduced to one lane from Friday night through midday on Saturday. The lane reduction will help improve safety at this merge point into the construction zone.
Milling and resurfacing on the southern end of the project is scheduled to occur on Saturday evening and Sunday. The entrance ramp from westbound KY 1065 (Outer Loop) to I-65 North will be used to stage construction equipment on Saturday afternoon. This ramp will be closed from 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20 until 10 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21. Motorists will be detoured from westbound Outer Loop to Minors Lane to eastbound Outer Loop where they can access I-65 North.
Paving on I-65 North from Fern Valley Road to Grade lane is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday. The roadway will be reduced to two lanes during this phase of construction. Even though the contract allows for lane closure through 5 a.m. on Monday, paving and roadway striping is estimated to be complete by 10 p.m. on Sunday.
In addition, the exit ramp from I-65 North to Fern Valley Road (Exit 128) will be closed from 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20 until 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21 for paving of the ramp and collector distributor lanes at this interchange.
The speed limit in the work zone will be reduced to 55 MPH and double fines will be enforced.
Motorists should expect heavy delays on I-65 North approaching this work zone and when possible take alternate routes.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) awarded this contract to Louisville Paving and Construction Company in the amount of $3.79 million. The work is to be performed over a period of six weekends. Lane closures are not permitted during major holidays or University of Louisville home football weekends. Construction must be completed by July 2019.
Paving of the I-65 northbound lanes should be completed this weekend. Work on I-65 South will occur in the spring of 2019.
