Lane closures on I-65 Kennedy Bridge in Jefferson County on August 21

Louisville, KY (August 17, 2018) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists of lane closures scheduled for next week on Interstate 65 South across the John F. Kennedy Bridge in Louisville (mile markers 136.3 to 137.3). KYTC bridge engineers and consultant inspection staff will be testing expansion joints at four locations.

The three right lanes of I-65 South will be closed from 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, August 21 until 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning, August 22. Staff will begin evaluation on the southern end of the bridge near Louisville and proceed north.

This testing is a follow-up to temporary repairs made in April when one of the expansion joints was dislodged due to vertical movement. Evaluation in the left lanes of I-65 South was performed in July. Inspectors are determining the extent of permanent repairs needed at the joints.

The structural integrity of the bridge is not affected by the expansion joints. Repairs are needed to provide a smooth ride for vehicles traveling over the bridge.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.  Visit goky.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  You can also get traffic information for the District 5 counties at facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5 and twitter.com/KYTCDistrict5 .
