KY 451 bridge at Glomawr in Perry County to be closed beginning Oct. 19
JACKSON, KY – Beginning Monday, Oct. 19, and continuing for approximately two weeks, a bridge on KY 451 in Perry County will be closed while final connections are made to the structure that will replace it.
A replacement for the aging Glomawr Bridge is being built adjacent to the existing structure. The closure of the old bridge is necessary to allow a contractor to finish installation of new traffic signals at the intersection of the new bridge and KY 15.
In addition, one lane of KY 15 in each direction will also be closed during most of this time. No traffic will be allowed to cross the old Glomawr Bridge, and no turns will be permitted from KY 15 onto KY 451. However, local traffic on each end of the bridge will be able to access Galley Street and Glomawr-Stormking Road. Electronic message boards will be placed at the site to inform drivers of the bridge closure.
During the closure period, drivers can use KY 15, Business KY 15 and KY 451 (East Main Street/Christopher Road) to bypass the closed bridge.
The signal installation and related work is expected to take approximately two weeks. Circumstances beyond the control of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet may extend the closure period. Once the new signals are installed and functional, it is expected that traffic will be shifted onto the new bridge and the old bridge will be demolished.
