Interstate 65 in Louisville will close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) from June 1- July 31 to speed progress on replacing 3 aging bridges.
The closure will save at least a year of construction restrictions, and a signed detour will be in place. Local street closures and ramp closures will also be needed.

Reminder: Road work on US 23, KY 168, I-64 in Boyd County
Expect one-lane traffic in work areas

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Friday, May 17, 2019) – Motorists should watch for one-lane traffic on US 23, KY 168 and I-64 in the coming weeks as Kentucky Transportation Cabinet highway improvements continue in Boyd County.

Paving operations and roadway repairs are under way or coming soon in the following areas:

  • US 23 in Ashland south of the Winchester-Greenup avenue split. Overnight rain delayed work Friday. Paving is now expected to be complete Monday, May 20. One-lane traffic remains in place on US 23 now through Monday between the 55th Street area and Winchester Avenue. Expect delays, and watch for paint crews on previously paved parts of the highway between I-64 and Ashland.
  • KY 168, Catlettsburg through Ashland, encompassing the Valley View Drive, Blackburn Avenue and Hoods Creek Pike areas. Paving should resume Tuesday, May 21, once work is complete on US 23. Crews will restart paving operations along the Blackburn Avenue area and move toward US 23 at Hoods Creek. One-lane traffic controlled by flaggers during working hours Tuesday through approximately Friday, May 24. Expect delays.
  • I-64 between Coalton (US 60 exit) and Cannonsburg, mile markers 180 to 184. Paving begins after Memorial Day, approximately on Tuesday, May 28. One-lane traffic, double-fine work zone. Expect delays. Crews are currently making embankment repairs on eastbound I-64 around the 182.5 mile marker, so motorists should watch for a right-lane closure in that area now.

Altogether, the three projects will bring a total of $5.7 million worth of new blacktop and other improvements to 18 miles of the most heavily-traveled state highways in Boyd County.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
