Traffic Advisory: Crews working to reopen state highways in Mason County
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (July 26, 2017) – Orangeburg and Germantown roads could reopen to at least one-lane traffic soon as state highway crews continue cleanup efforts in the wake of a severe weekend storm.
Floodwaters washed out Orangeburg Road (KY 1449) at the Kennedy Creek culvert east of Maysville, where it remains closed to all traffic. Germantown Road (KY 3056) west of Maysville remains closed between Tuckahoe Road (KY 576) and Big Pond Pike.
The Dover Covered Bridge also remains closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic due to structural damage.
Crews and contractors are removing debris and damaged sections of pavement on Orangeburg and Germantown roads. Once that preliminary cleanup work is complete, temporary traffic signals will be installed – likely the week of July 31 – to guide motorists through the damaged areas. Then, the roads will reopen to one-lane traffic until permanent repairs can be made. Motorists should note those repairs will require temporary closures, which will be announced.
Two other state highways are also restricted to one-lane traffic in damaged areas, including:
-- KY 8 just east of Dover
-- KY 3170 in Lewisburg
Crews are clearing debris on other state highways in Mason County. Motorists should travel with caution, drive carefully around workers and equipment, and be prepared to reroute if necessary.
