Interstate 65 in Louisville will close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) from June 1- July 31 to speed progress on replacing 3 aging bridges.
The closure will save at least a year of construction restrictions, and a signed detour will be in place. Local street closures and ramp closures will also be needed.

Road Work @KYTCDistrict9 … Construction impacts on I-64, AA Highway, KY 377, KY 182, KY 519, elsewhere
Protect yourself, workers: Slow down in work zones

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Sept. 2, 2016) – While some highway work will cease for the Labor Day holiday, the Transportation Cabinet reminds motorists that summer construction season is still going strong across northeast Kentucky.

Here’s a county-by-county summary of ongoing construction projects with traffic changes in Kentucky Department of Highways District 9:

BOYD & CARTER

-          East and West I-64 between Olive Hill and the Boyd County line, mile markers 161 to 181: Left shoulders are closed, and traffic is one lane in two-mile sections where median cable barrier is being installed. Speed limit is 55 mph thru work zones. Watch for concrete trucks and workers alongside the highway as part of the $3.1 million safety improvement project.

-          In Carter County, watch for bridge construction traffic and delays on US 60 at Stinson Creek. A diversionary detour route is being built.

-          Resurfacing KY 182 from KY 2 past Carter Caves to US 60 (mile markers 8.5 to 15.9), paving is under way, and will continue the next few weeks.

-          Watch for occasional flagged traffic on US 60 in the Summit area of Boyd County for striping and other work as a paving project nears completion.

ELLIOTT COUNTY

-          Work is continuing on a $26.5 million reconstruction of KY 7 in Elliott County from just north of KY 706 to the Carter County line. Watch for lane closures, flagged traffic, rough pavement and other impacts.

GREENUP COUNTY

-          On US 23 at KY 244 at Russell in Greenup County, northbound and southbound US 23, as well as KY 244 turning traffic, have stop conditions at new traffic signals. Northbound US 23 is restricted to one lane past the KY 244 intersection and Ironton-Russell bridge construction site. Expect delays.

-          Due to an Ohio DOT maintenance project, the U.S. Grant bridge is closed at downtown Portsmouth. Northbound US 23 traffic should avoid the turn lane at the Grant bridge and continue north to the Carl Perkins Memorial Bridge at KY 8. Likewise, southbound KY 8 traffic going to Portsmouth should turn at the Perkins bridge prior to the Grant bridge.

-          Watch for traffic impacts due to a paving and sidewalk project along two and a half miles of KY 750 (Lexington Avenue-Powell Lane) from US 23 to KY 1172-Seaton Avenue in downtown Flatwoods.

LEWIS COUNTY

-          Watch for one-lane traffic for installation of T-rail alongside KY 377 at the 2.2 mile marker, about two miles north of the Rowan County line between Hardy Fork and Thurman Branch. The road will remain open, but will be one lane with traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals.

MASON COUNTY

-          The AA Highway (KY 9) widening project in Mason County from US 68 north of Maysville to just north of KY 435 at Fernleaf is continuing, with two-way traffic maintained and speed limit reduced to 45 miles per hour. Work will take place Saturday, Sept. 10, but not on Labor Day. All traffic continues to be restricted to 8-foot wide loads through November from mile markers 12.6 to 17.5. Motorists should watch for occasional flagged traffic and construction equipment on roadways. Northbound KY 435 traffic has no access from the AA, and remains detoured using: KY 8 through Dover using KY 1235 to connect to and from KY 435, and using KY 576 and KY 3056 to connect to and from the AA Highway, or other routes.

-          Contractors are working to widen and reconstruct Maple Leaf Road (KY 1448) at Maysville between US 62 and the AA Highway. Currently, motorists should watch for intermittent flagged traffic along KY 1448, as well as at the roadway’s US 62 and the AA Highway intersections for construction equipment near or crossing the existing highway. Work will take place Saturday, Sept. 10, but not on Labor Day.

-          A slip repair, T-rail installation project is under way on KY 3056 between the KY 1597 and US 68 (Clyde T. Barbour Parkway) intersections. That section of road will be closed to all through traffic each weekday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Traffic may use KY 1597, KY 8 and US 68 to detour around the project. School bus traffic will not be impacted.

ROWAN COUNTY

-          Contractors are working on a $10 million highway improvement project along KY 519 in Rowan County that includes a new roadway, drainage and other work between KY 801 near Cave Run Lake north two miles to the bottom of Clack Mountain where it ties in with a previous improvement project. Motorists should watch for occasional flagged traffic, and reduced speeds through work zones.

Where road construction is occurring, motorists should expect delays and should plan trips accordingly. In addition, watch for speed limit reductions in all work zones.
