Interstate 65 in Louisville will close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) from June 1- July 31 to speed progress on replacing 3 aging bridges.
The closure will save at least a year of construction restrictions, and a signed detour will be in place. Local street closures and ramp closures will also be needed.

Road Work @KYTCDistrict9 … Construction impacts on I-64, Jesse Stuart Bridge, AA Highway in Lewis and Mason counties,  elsewhere continue next week
Protect yourself, workers: Slow down in work zones

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Friday, June 3, 2016) – Motorists should expect traffic impacts on I-64, the AA Highway north of Vanceburg and at Maysville, and elsewhere as road construction activities continue across northeast Kentucky.

Here’s a county-by-county summary of traffic patterns that will be in place during the next work week, the week of June 6, in Kentucky Department of Highways District 9:

BOYD & CARTER

-          East and West I-64 between Grayson and the Boyd County line is one lane from mile marker 170 near Grayson to 178 near the Industrial Parkway for paving and other improvements. Speed limit is 55 mph thru work zones. Also, watch for traffic impacts on Exit 172 at Grayson.

-          Watch for adjacent roadway detours on KY 2 at Jordan Fork for a bridge reconstruction project. And watch for bridge construction traffic and delays on US 60 at Stinson Creek. A diversionary detour route is expected by mid-July.

ELLIOTT COUNTY

-          Work is continuing on a $26.5 million reconstruction of KY 7 in Elliott County from just north of KY 706 to the Carter County line. Lane closures, flagged traffic, rough pavement and other impacts likely.

GREENUP COUNTY

-          On US 23 at Russell in Greenup County, both northbound and southbound US 23 is restricted to one lane past the KY 244 intersection and Ironton-Russell bridge construction site. Turn lanes will allow US 23 traffic access to KY 244 and downtown Russell via traffic signals. All southbound US 23 thru traffic should keep right to stay on US 23 south, while Russell-bound traffic should keep left.

-          The Jesse Stuart Memorial Bridge (KY 10) that connects US 23 in Kentucky to US 52 in Ohio is restricted to one lane, with work primarily on the Ohio side of the bridge. Traffic will be controlled by temporary signals, and it’s likely wait times at signals will be lengthy – from 3 to 9 minutes, or longer depending. Motorists may seek alternate routes between Ohio and Kentucky, if possible, using bridges at Ashland, Russell or Portsmouth, Ohio, to avoid the wait.

LEWIS COUNTY

-          Paving and repairs on the AA Highway (KY 9) in Lewis County will take place north of Vanceburg between the Clarksburg and Herron Hill areas, from mile markers 15 to 21. Expected daily one-lane traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicles. Expect delays and heavy traffic during daytime work hours.

MASON COUNTY

-          The AA Highway (KY 9) widening project in Mason County from US 68 north of Maysville to just north of KY 435 at Fernleaf is continuing, with two-way traffic maintained and speed limit reduced to 45 miles per hour. All traffic is restricted to 8-foot wide loads June through November from mile markers 12.6 to 17.5. Motorists should watch for occasional flagged traffic, construction equipment on roadways and daily blasting through September. Each blast will require all AA Highway traffic to stop for 5 to 10 minutes. No blasting will occur before 8:30 a.m. or after 3 p.m. Motorists are advised to watch signs and message boards, and obey flaggers. Through traffic on KY 435 remains detoured using KY 10 at Germantown and the AA Highway.

-          Contractors are working to widen and reconstruct Maple Leaf Road (KY 1448) at Maysville between US 62 and the AA Highway. Currently, motorists should watch for intermittent flagged traffic along KY 1448, as well as at the roadway’s US 62 and the AA Highway intersections, as primary road-building ramps up.

-          Beginning at 7:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, crews will close KY 3056 about a half mile west of its US 68 intersection for a pipe replacement. The road will remain closed 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 7. A detour will not be posted, but traffic may use KY 1597, KY 8 and US 68 to reroute.

ROWAN COUNTY

-          Contractors are working on a $10 million highway improvement project along KY 519 in Rowan County that includes a new roadway, drainage and other work between KY 801 near Cave Run Lake north two miles to the bottom of Clack Mountain where it ties in with a previous improvement project. Motorists should watch for occasional flagged traffic, and reduced speeds through work zones.

Because of typically heavy traffic On I-64, US 23, AA Highway and others, motorists should expect delays and should plan trips accordingly. In addition, watch for speed limit reductions in all work zones.
