Interstate 65 in Louisville will close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) from June 1- July 31 to speed progress on replacing 3 aging bridges.
The closure will save at least a year of construction restrictions, and a signed detour will be in place. Local street closures and ramp closures will also be needed.

Traffic Advisory: Paving to close I-64 Exit 156 at Olive Hill beginning July 17
Detour using Exit 161

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. – Work on a 12-mile paving and repair project on Interstate 64 in Carter County will require a two-day closure of Olive Hill’s Exit 156.

Beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, contractors will close the Exit 156 (Smokey Valley) on and off ramps linking I-64 and KY 2 so paving equipment can safely remove old blacktop and apply new asphalt on each ramp. Work will cease, and the exit ramps will reopen, by 6 p.m. On Thursday, July 18, the ramps will again close for paving between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

During the closures, all traffic will be detoured to Exit 161 (Pleasant Valley) where motorists can access both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-64 or use US 60 to reach KY 2 in downtown Olive Hill.

In addition, road work is ongoing along the first six miles of the I-64 project: From mile marker 154 past Exit 156 at Olive Hill to mile marker 160 just prior to the Pleasant Valley exit. The interstate remains one lane through the work zone. Once crews finish in that area, construction will move to the next six mile section of I-64 between the 160 and 167 mile markers.

During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 55 miles per hour. Motorists should heed all warning signs, watch for narrow lanes and drive carefully by remaining aware of workers and construction equipment at all times.

The work is part of a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet project totaling $10,395,963.97 awarded to Mac Construction and Excavating Inc.
