Work begins on KY 111, KY 57 safety improvements
Traffic changes by late March
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (March 14, 2013) – Work begins this month on the Transportation Cabinet’s nearly $800,000 project to improve highway safety along KY 111 and KY 57 in rural Fleming County.
The project, funded through the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), includes highway shoulder and slope corrections, drainage and guardrail enhancements and pavement patching.
Contractors expect to start work next week, the week of March 18, along six miles of KY 111 between the KY 1515 and KY 32 intersections. Work along 4.6 miles of KY 57, between Logan Run Creek bridge and the Lewis County line, will start later this spring.
The work will require one-lane travel in some areas beginning in late March or early April. Motorists should remain watchful for construction crews, flaggers and traffic changes at all times.
For the project, engineers with Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 identified areas along KY 111 and KY 57 where shoulders could be built up and drop-offs lessened to reduce run-off-the road crashes and improve the chances drivers can recover from them.
This winter, Transportation Cabinet awarded the project to Philmor Contracting Inc. under a $796,377.95 low-bid contract, with a completion date of Aug. 16.
