Traffic Advisory: Work zones on I-64 in Carter County
One lane at 148-154, and 177-178 mile markers
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2015) – Work zones mean one-lane traffic along several miles of I-64 in Carter County as part of two Kentucky Transportation Cabinet improvement projects totaling nearly $20 million.
Currently, I-64 is one lane from mile marker 148 near the Carter-Rowan county line to mile marker 154 west of Olive Hill where contractors are replacing old pavement with new blacktop. Tree trimming, drainage improvements, guardrail and other repairs will continue through next spring on a $10.7 million highway renovation project that also included slip repairs.
Beginning next week, the week of Oct. 12, contractors plan to build concrete retaining walls alongside I-64 at the KY 207 overpass east of Grayson. Traffic will be restricted to one lane between the 177 and 178 mile markers this fall and winter. In addition, motorists should watch for intermittent shoulder or lane closures on I-64 from Grayson to the Boyd County for tree trimming.
The work is part of an $8.5 million project that will bring pavement, drainage, guardrail and roadside upgrades to 10 miles of I-64 in eastern Carter County through next summer.
Motorists traveling I-64 through Carter County should heed warning signs, slow down in work zones, and be aware that reduced speed limits are being enforced in some areas.
