Traffic Advisory: Cannonsburg Road (KY 3294) to close Friday night through Sunday for culvert replacement
Part of state safety improvement project
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (August 5, 2015) – Contractors will temporarily close Cannonsburg Road (KY 3294) in Boyd County this Friday evening through Sunday for a culvert replacement.
Beginning after school at about 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, contractors will close Cannonsburg Road to all traffic at mile marker 1.9 near Marsh Run Creek between Carty Road and McGuire Drive as crews dig through the roadway to replace an aging concrete culvert. The road will remain closed until Sunday evening when work is complete.
Motorists may use KY 538 (Shopes Creek Road) and US 60 to detour during the closure, and should watch message boards for traffic and schedule changes.
The culvert replacement is part of a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet highway safety improvement project that since last year has included not only removal of trees near the state highway to improve sight distance, but also guardrail installation, shoulder repairs, replacement of more than two dozen drainage pipes under the roadway, and blacktop patching along KY 3294 from Adams Drive at Cannonsburg to Johnda Drive on the Catlettsburg side.
The work is being done by Hinkle Environmental Services under a $965,000 low-bid Transportation Cabinet contract.
Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
