FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Friday, July 31) — If you're considering a quick before-school-starts vacation, remember that several major road construction projects are continuing in Greenup, Carter and Mason counties. Here's what's going on behind the barrels:

INDUSTRIAL PARKWAY (KY 67) GREENUP COUNTY
  • Major paving continues along 13 miles of the Industrial Parkway (KY 67) in Boyd and Greenup counties, with work currently near the KY 207 intersection. Contractors are moving north from the parkway's I-64 end toward the US 23 intersection. Work on the $10 million project includes milling away old, deteriorated asphalt and repaving with new blacktop across all lanes. Traffic is one lane controlled by flaggers in work areas. Expect delays.
I-64 CARTER COUNTY
  • As contractors work to repair an embankment failure alongside I-64 in Carter County, interstate traffic is using a “crossover” lane around the 150 mile marker. Both westbound and eastbound traffic are sharing a two-way lane configuration on the eastern side of the interstate. Traffic will remain one lane between mile markers 148 and 151 for the next few months as slide repairs take place adjacent to westbound lanes. Speed limit is 55 mph. Expect delays. Work is part of an $11 million repair and pavement upgrade project that will continue into next year.
US 62, US 68, AA Highway MASON COUNTY
  • Reconstruction of US 62 at Maysville is scheduled for completion by Aug. 10, as contractors have finished rebuilding the highway and are now placing the final surface of blacktop across all lanes. Most work is being done at night and will continue into next week with traffic initially shifted onto the far outside of the roadway in one lane each direction between the AA Highway and Moody Drive. As paving progresses from middle lanes toward the outside edge of the highway, traffic could shift daily into new configurations. Motorists should watch signs and message boards for changing traffic patterns, and should expect delays. For more information, see http://bit.ly/US62Rebuild online or follow @US62Maysville on Twitter.
  • Also in Mason County, work to repave US 68 between Washington and May's Lick is continuing; and contractors are installing guardrail along the AA Highway (KY 9) near Maysville and resurfacing sections of the AA Highway between KY 11 and Tollesboro. Motorists should watch for intermittent lane closures and flagged traffic.
US 60 ASHLAND
  • In Ashland, motorists will see the end of work zones along US 60 in Ashland as contractors have finished major construction there and traffic has resumed its normal four-lane configuration from Rose Hill to Summit. Previously closed intersections and lanes have opened. While motorists could see minor touch-up work such as landscaping, striping and pavement marker installation in the coming weeks, any traffic control would be limited to temporary shoulder or lane closures in the work area. The $3.4 million improvement project has brought new blacktop, new turn lanes, stronger concrete intersections and the replacement of the raised median with center turns to the highway leading to downtown Ashland.
