Interstate 65 in Louisville will close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) from June 1- July 31 to speed progress on replacing 3 aging bridges.
The closure will save at least a year of construction restrictions, and a signed detour will be in place. Local street closures and ramp closures will also be needed.

Traffic switches to new Flemingsburg Bypass Friday; temporary closure of KY 57 for tie-in, other changes

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Nov. 4, 2014) – Contractors plan to open the new northern extension of the Flemingsburg Bypass (KY 57) on Friday, Nov. 7, which will mean traffic changes for KY 11, KY 57 and KY 597 motorists.

Specifically, all KY 57 thru traffic will begin using the new road and contractors will temporarily close old KY 57 two miles north of downtown Flemingsburg to finish tying the new and old roads together.

Beginning Friday – once guardrail, paving and other construction work necessary for managing traffic is complete – contractors will activate traffic signals and shift barricades to route all KY 57 traffic across the two-mile bypass from KY 11-Maysville Road to KY 57 at Sleepy Run Creek.

At the same time, contractors will temporarily close old KY 57 where it connects to the new bypass at Sleepy Run north of downtown. The old road will be closed to all thru traffic Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8, with local traffic only allowed between Flemingsburg and the new bypass intersection. Thru traffic on KY 57 will be detoured across the new bypass.

The closure and detour will give contractors time to tie the two roads together safely. That work is expected to be complete Sunday, Nov. 9, at which time the new bypass (KY 57), old KY 57 and all intersections will be completely open and operational.

Signs and message boards will be placed at all necessary locations around Flemingsburg to alert motorists of the traffic changes and closures, and to direct them to the appropriate routes.

Motorists are also reminded that the new bypass area could remain a construction work zone for several more weeks, and everyone should continue to drive with caution.

New Bypass Traffic

With traffic flowing across it on Friday, the new bypass will be KY 57, connecting the existing Flemingsburg Bypass and KY 11 to KY 57 north of the city with the following traffic patterns:

-        Traffic on southbound KY 57 from Mount Carmel-Tollesboro will continue onto the new bypass (KY 57) at a “Y” intersection at Sleepy Run Creek without making any turns. Access to old KY 57 (KY 57X) into downtown will be maintained via a left-turn lane. Bypass (KY 57) traffic may continue south to intersect KY 11-Maysville Road at the existing Flemingsburg Bypass.

-        Traffic on existing northbound KY 11 Flemingsburg Bypass coming from the hospital area can access the new bypass (KY 57) at the four-way traffic signal north of downtown Flemingsburg. Traffic may turn left toward Maysville, right toward downtown or straight to continue on north KY 57 toward Mount Carmel-Tollesboro.

-        Northbound traffic on old KY 57 (KY 57X) from downtown will intersect the new bypass (KY 57) at a stop sign. Traffic must yield to cross traffic, then may either turn left onto the bypass (KY 57) to the KY 11 intersection or turn right toward Mount Carmel-Tollesboro.

-        Cherry Grove Road (KY 597) will intersect the new bypass (KY 57) at a new two-way stop. Motorists should remember that Cherry Grove Road traffic must stop at the bypass intersection, and yield to thru traffic on the bypass. When the intersection is clear, Cherry Grove Road traffic may continue straight to the KY 597-KY 11 intersection downtown or turn left onto KY 57 toward Mount Carmel-Tollesboro or right toward the KY 11-Maysville Road intersection.
