Interstate 65 in Louisville will close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) from June 1- July 31 to speed progress on replacing 3 aging bridges.
The closure will save at least a year of construction restrictions, and a signed detour will be in place. Local street closures and ramp closures will also be needed.

Traffic change on KY 57 north of Flemingsburg at new bypass
Shifting to new pavement Friday morning

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Sept. 18, 2014) – Motorists traveling KY 57 north of Flemingsburg should watch for traffic changes Friday, Sept. 19, at the Flemingsburg bypass construction site.

Contractors will shift all KY 57 traffic eastward onto new pavement at what eventually will become the new bypass intersection. The traffic change is necessary so that work to build the intersection can shift to the west side along the existing roadway.

Early Friday morning, crews will begin placing barrier walls, barrels and other traffic control devices. Flaggers will direct traffic until everything is in place, and the following traffic pattern is established:

  • -        North from Flemingsburg, KY 57 traffic approaching the bypass work site will veer east (right) through the construction zone, then curve right again onto a new section of pavement just north of the bypass. Traffic will rejoin the existing highway near the Sleepy Run Creek bridge.

  • -        South from Tollesboro, KY 57 traffic passing the Sleepy Run Creek bridge will veer east (left) onto new pavement, then curve left again before returning to the existing highway just past the bypass work site.

The new traffic pattern will remain in place until the new section of Flemingsburg bypass is opened, at which time a second traffic shift will occur and final traffic patterns will be established. Bypass completion is expected by mid-fall, weather permitting.

Motorists are reminded to slow down, expect changed traffic patterns and possible delays at the KY 57, KY 11 and Cherry Grove Road intersections, and watch for rough pavement and construction vehicles in the work zone.

The $10 million Flemingsburg bypass extension, which began in February 2013, includes building a new two-lane roadway with turning lanes over two miles of open country from the existing bypass intersection at KY 11 north of Flemingsburg across Cherry Grove Road (KY 597) to KY 57 near Sleepy Run Creek.

The project will improve safety and reduce congestion through downtown Flemingsburg by providing an alternate travel route for commercial trucks and thru traffic using KY 11 and KY 57.
