Interstate 65 in Louisville will close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) from June 1- July 31 to speed progress on replacing 3 aging bridges.
The closure will save at least a year of construction restrictions, and a signed detour will be in place. Local street closures and ramp closures will also be needed.

This Week in District 9: KY 3310 closure in Lewis; paving KY 556 at Sandy Hook; work on I-64, US 23, KY 11, KY 784
Traffic impacts listed in seven northeast counties

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Aug. 22, 2014) – Paving on KY 556 at Sandy Hook and drainage repairs on Oak Ridge Road in Lewis County are two of the newest road improvement projects impacting traffic next week, the week of Aug. 25, in northeast Kentucky.

Motorists should watch for message boards, flaggers, temporary signals and signs directing traffic through these and other work zones:

LEWIS COUNTY

-- On Tuesday, Aug. 26, state highway crews will close Oak Ridge Road (KY 3310) in southwest Lewis County between Rose Mountain Road and KY 989 to replace a drainage pipe underneath the roadway. The work is not expected to affect school bus traffic. However, other traffic will be stopped for several hours during roadway excavation. Motorists should watch for message boards announcing the closure, and detour using KY 989 and KY 344 through Pleasureville-Foxport.

-- Paving on KY 57 from the Fleming-Lewis county line north to the KY 1237 intersection is expected, weather permitting. Watch for one-lane traffic controlled by flaggers.

ELLIOTT COUNTY

-- Paving along seven miles of KY 556 (North Ruin Road) from the KY 173 intersection to KY 7 in downtown Sandy Hook is expected to start Monday, Aug. 25, according to Hinkle Contracting. Work zones will be one lane with traffic controlled by flaggers. Weather permitting, work should be complete within four to five days.

-- Work is continuing on five miles of KY 7 being rebuilt from just north of KY 706 to the Elliott-Carter county line. Motorists should expect possible lane closures, lane shifts and other impacts, and should be mindful of trucks or other heavy equipment entering and leaving the highway in that area.

BOYD COUNTY

-- Paving is expected during the week on KY 854 from US 60 four miles east toward Garner, with one-lane traffic controlled by flaggers.

-- Nighttime paving and concrete sidewalk repairs are continuing along two miles of Greenup Avenue (US 23) in Ashland, from the 7th Street-Winchester Avenue split north of downtown to the 32nd Street-Winchester split south. Lane closures along the four-lane highway are possible nightly, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., as well as some possible daytime work zones.

CARTER COUNTY

-- Road work is taking place along Interstate 64 in Carter County from mile markers 166 to 172, which is between the Gregoryville-Fultz Road overpass and the Grayson exit. Traffic is one lane eastbound and westbound, and the speed limit is 55 miles per hour in the work zone – a double-fine zone when workers are present.

FLEMING COUNTY

-- Construction is continuing in downtown Flemingsburg on KY 11X – also known as KY 11 Bus., or business route – from the KY 11 and KY 32-Flemingsburg Bypass intersection south of town near Pizza Hut to the KY 11-Flemingsburg Bypass intersection north of town near the country club. Work includes curbside drainage repairs this week, with paving as early as the week of Aug. 25. Watch for one-lane traffic controlled by flaggers.

-- Contractors building the new section of the Flemingsburg Bypass have been working alongside KY 57 in the Sleepy Run area to remove a hillside and straighten the highway’s connection to the new road. By the week of Sept. 1, contractors expect to shift KY 57 traffic onto a temporary route east of the existing highway, so that work can shift to the west side. Message boards and signs will mark the traffic change. Motorists should drive with caution, and slow down through the work zone.

GREENUP COUNTY

-- Highway crews are preparing KY 784, Lost Creek Road, in southwest Greenup County for paving later this year, with work that includes drainage pipe replacements and roadway repairs. Watch for road and lane closures during weekday working hours. Message boards in advance of work zones will list closure times and locations.

In addition, crews in all counties are continuing summer maintenance operations, including right of way mowing, ditchline cleaning and other repairs. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
