Traffic Advisory: Bridge repairs to close Russell viaduct (KY 244) for a week
Viaduct closed Sept. 30-Oct. 4

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Sept. 24, 2019) – Necessary concrete repairs on the Russell viaduct (KY 244) in Greenup County will require a temporary closure of the bridge next week.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 30, and continuing through Friday, Oct. 4, the viaduct will be closed, day and night, as structures crews with the Kentucky Department of Highways patch the pavement and repair other parts of the bridge.

Motorists should use US 23 and Ferry Street or other routes to detour into and out of downtown Russell. Emergency vehicle traffic such as police, ambulances or fire trucks will not be affected.

The repair work is necessary to keep the bridge operational until its replacement can be built – a project to build a new KY 244 bridge into downtown Russell is expected to be let to construction in October – and to guard against bridge issues during the winter months.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
