City of Maysville awarded $125,250 in discretionary funds for critical pavement improvements
Resurfacing repairs to be made to four city streets

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Aug. 23, 2019) – While visiting Maysville Thursday, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Department of Rural and Municipal Aid Commissioner Gray Tomblyn II announced $125,250 in discretionary funds has been awarded to the city for vital resurfacing work on East Fourth Street, Elizabeth Street, River Park Road and McDonald Parkway. Resurfacing repairs address existing surface cracks, potholes, raveling, and base failures. The investment supports Governor Matt Bevin's commitment to prioritize transportation infrastructure projects and increase economic opportunity across the Commonwealth.

"The Bevin Administration continues to focus on taking care of what we have at both the state and local level to address critical infrastructure needs that improve safety and support job creation and retention," said KYTC Secretary Greg Thomas. "This funding builds upon existing transportation investments and allows the Cabinet to collaborate with local governments to identify projects that will have a large impact in communities."

Maysville Mayor Charles Cotterill identified these streets as critical to the city's transportation system.

"The City of Maysville would like to say a special thanks to Governor Bevin and Commissioner Tomblyn for help in securing funding to resurface local roads," said Mayor Cotterill. "These funds will allow the city to make improvements on streets and provide everyone a safer place to drive. Without funding, Maysville would not be able to accomplish these important projects."

Projects submitted to the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid for discretionary fund consideration were evaluated by the KYTC district staff to assess the condition of roads and determine the most critical needs based on factors such as safety, economic impact, and traffic volumes.

"Roads drive Kentucky's economy," said Sen. Steve West. "These much-needed transportation improvements will promote commuter safety and infrastructure in Maysville."

The upcoming work will improve road conditions on streets that provide access to 64 homes. The Maysville City Commission is responsible for administering the work, and KYTC will reimburse the city for the projects.

"I'm really pleased to see Maysville receive this road money, which will go a long way toward making their streets both smoother and safer," said Rep. John Sims Jr. "I want to thank the Transportation Cabinet for making this possible and look forward to seeing the work once it's complete."

The City of Maysville is responsible for administering the work, and KYTC will reimburse the county for the projects.

Resurfacing work will address:

  • - East Fourth Street (County Street 1189) – resurfacing 0.348 miles
  • - Elizabeth Street (County Street 1248) – resurfacing 0.222 miles
  • - River Park Road (County Street 1214) – resurfacing 0.256 miles
  • - McDonald Parkway (County Street 1166) – resurfacing 0.345 miles
