Purp​oseThis project aims to enhance overall traffic flow, reduce congestion during peak and non-peak hours, and systematically address safety concerns for all road users, including motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. By implementing strategic infrastructure improvements and modern traffic management solutions, this initiative aims to create a more efficient and secure transportation network. 

Project Scope

Reconstruct U.S. 42 and widen from two to three lanes from the Jefferson County/Oldham County line to Ridgemoor Drive (Oldham County). The project will include the addition of a center turn lane, sidewalks, and a shared-use path.​

Project Timeline
As of Summer 2025 (SUBJECT TO CHANGE):
  • KYTC has contracted with a consultant design company to complete the final design. This project is Phase 2 of a two-phase design; Phase 1 was completed in 2011.
  • The Right of Way phase was completed in 2019.
  • The Utility phase and utility relocations are ongoing.
  • A Construction phase may be funded in 2027.* 
*The above pro​ject milestone dates are subject to change due to changes in funding availability within the next Enacted Highway Plan.

Public Input​
A Local Officials/Stakeholders Meeting was held on October 18, 2007.

A Public Meeting was held on April 1, 2008.
