U.S. 42 Improvements from Jefferson/Oldham County line to Ridgemoor Drive (Oldham County) - Project 05-441.01

Purp​oseThis project aims to enhance overall traffic flow, reduce congestion during peak and non-peak hours, and systematically address safety concerns for all road users, including motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. By implementing strategic infrastructure improvements and modern traffic management solutions, this initiative aims to create a more efficient and secure transportation network.

Project Scope

Reconstruct U.S. 42 and widen from two to three lanes from the Jefferson County/Oldham County line to Ridgemoor Drive (Oldham County). The project will include the addition of a center turn lane, sidewalks, and a shared-use path.​​

Project Timeline
As of Winter 2025/2026 (SUBJECT TO CHANGE):
  • ​KYTC has contracted with a consultant design company to complete the final design. This project is Phase 2 of a two-phase design; Phase 1 was completed in 2011, and Phase 2 is anticipated to be completed in Fall 2026.
  • The Right of Way phase was completed in 2019.
  • The Utility phase and utility relocations are ongoing.
  • The Construction phase may begin in 2028.*

*The above project milestone dates are subject to change depending on the Cabinet's funding constraints and various other factors.
