Purpose
The purpose of this project is to improve safety, traffic operations, and travel reliability along KY 44 from US 31E/150 (Bardstown Road) to the Spencer County Line for all roadway users.
Project Scope

The scope of the project includes the reconstruction of KY 44 from the US 31E (Bardstown Road) intersection to the Spencer County Line. Multiple alternatives have been developed for US 31E (Bardstown Road) to Kings Church Road and from Kings Church Road to the Spencer County Line.

Alternatives being considered include:

  • KY 44 from US 31E (Bardstown Road) to Kings Church Road
    • Widening to 5 lanes from US 31E to Bullitt East HS and to 3 lanes from Bullitt East HS to Kings Church Road. Utilizes traffic signals and uncontrolled intersections at various locations.
    • Roundabouts at six locations along the KY 44 corridor. Includes widening to four lanes from US 31E to Bullitt East HS and raised medians.
    • Both alternatives propose multimodal facilities on both sides of KY 44.
  • KY 44 from Kings Church Road to the Spencer County Line
    • Spot improvements at two locations. Addition of paved shoulders.
    • Shifted location, complete roadway reconstruction.
    • Both alternatives will have two lanes throughout.
  • US 31E (Bardstown Road)
    • Dual left turns from southbound US 31E to eastbound KY 44
    • Continuous flow intersection with a displaced left turn lane for southbound US 31E to eastbound KY 44
Type of Project

This roadway reconstruction project will provide safety and operational improvement to KY 44.
Various alternatives are still under consideration and may include roundabouts, medians, spot improvements, sidewalks, and other intersection reconfigurations.
