I-64 West to be reduced to one lane in Jefferson County October 12-15
Louisville, KY (Oct. 10, 2018) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of lane closures this weekend on Interstate 64 in Jefferson County. I-64 West will be reduced from four lanes to one lane between Hurstbourne Parkway and I-264 (Watterson Expressway), mile markers 15.0 to 12.3.
Contract crews will be replacing concrete pavement slabs between the Oxmoor overpass and I-264 that have settled resulting in uneven driving lanes. To provide the space needed to perform these repairs and give a safe distance between workers, equipment and moving traffic, only the right lane of I-64 West will be open this weekend. All exit and entrance ramps at the I-64/I-264 interchange (Exit 12) will remain open during this work.
Lane closures on I-64 West are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 and continue through 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15. Motorists should expect major delays and seek alternate routes.
Once the new concrete has been poured, lane closures must remain in place until the pavement has cured and achieved sufficient strength to carry traffic. It is possible that workers may not be present in the construction area during this curing process.
Concrete slab replacement on I-64 was included in the contract for interchange improvements at I-64 and I-264. This work was performed last weekend on I-64 East between Breckenridge Lane and the Oxmoor overpass. Concrete repairs on the driving lanes of I-64 must be completed by October 15, 2018.
Hall Contracting of Kentucky Inc. was awarded this contract in the amount of $9.7 million. The I-64/I-264 interchange project includes building an additional lane on the exit ramp from I-64 West to I-264 West. Construction is scheduled for completion in November 2019.
The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
