Blue Lick Road Widening Project Scheduled to Begin in Jefferson County Project expected to begin next week
LOUISVILLE, KY (March 12, 2021) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of the beginning of a project to widen a portion of Blue Lick Road (KY 1450) in Jefferson County. Work is scheduled to start during the week of March 15. As part of the project, the road will be widened from Gene Snyder North (mile marker 1.9) to Preston Highway (mile marker 3.5). The new configuration will have one lane of traffic in each direction with a continuous center turning lane. New sidewalks and drainage will also be added as part of the project.
"This much-anticipated project will bring added safety and reduced congestion to this corridor," said Chief District Engineer Matt Bullock. "By adding a continuous center turn lane, eliminating the deep roadside ditches, and constructing sidewalks, this project will allow for safer travels for both drivers and pedestrians."
Intermittent lane closures are possible throughout the project. Louisville Paving & Construction was awarded the contract in December 2020 in the amount of $10,980,000. The project is scheduled to be complete in the spring of 2023.
