Jefferson County: Widening KY 155 (Taylorsville Road) to 4 lanes with a center turn lane or raised median from I-265 to KY-148 - Project 05-8908

Picture1.png

Purpose

This project aims to address various traffic, access, safety, and operational issues along Taylorsville Road from the intersection of Taylorsville Road and KY 148 to the I-265 Gene Snyder Freeway ramps. While also providing continuity throughout the corridor for roadway users, park users, and residents in eastern Jefferson County.

Within the limits of the 5-8908 project, project 5-808 - KY 155 Taylorsville Rd at South Pope Lick Creek is currently under construction. Project 5-808 will improve the intersection at South Pope Lick Road and realign the offset intersection while replacing the structurally deficient bridge over Pope Lick Creek. The bridge will be constructed to the ultimate width needed for project 5-8908.

Also, with project 5-808, turn lanes will be provided. The intersection realignment of South Pope Lick Road will improve safety and sight distance at this location.
Project Scope
Widening KY 155 (Taylorsville Road) to 4 lanes with a center turn lane or raised median from I-265 to KY-148.
Type of ProjectThe roadway will be widened to four 11-foot lanes with a 13-foot two-way left-turn lane/raised median with sidewalks on either side in the urban section. In the rural section, the roadway will consist of four 11-foot lanes with a 10-foot usable shoulder (8-foot paved with two feet of crushed stone) and a 13-foot two-way left-turn lane/raised median.

From the beginning of the project limit to South Pope Lick Road, the roadway will consist of the rural section (shown below), and from that point, to OT1 an urban section will be provided, which consists of 5-foot sidewalks on both sides of the roadway.

From OT1 to the end project, a 10-foot wide multi-use path will be provided on the south side of the roadway.

This will be a continuation of the Louisville Loop that will run on the south side of KY 155 between New Hopewell Road (logical termini point) and OT1 and tie in at the South Pope Lick Park.

Please see the typical sections below depicting the urban and rural sections. Please note: the raised median is not shown, consisting of a 2-foot curb and gutter on both sides with sodding between the curbs.
