KY 191 in Wolfe County to be closed for bridge replacement project

JACKSON, KY – KY 191 near Hazel Green in Wolfe County will be closed beginning Monday, March 9, for a bridge replacement project that is a part of the state’s Bridging Kentucky initiative.

The bridge at milepoint 9.47 crossing Lacy Creek will be closed for 60 days.

The project location is just south of the KY 1010 intersection near Hazel Green.

Drivers traveling between Campton and Hazel Green can use the Mountain Parkway and KY 1010 as an alternate route around the closure. Motorists can also use KY 3356 and KY 1010 as a detour. A signed detour will be posted. Electronic message boards have been placed to notify drivers of the upcoming closure.

The existing bridge has a posted weight limit of 44 tons for 18-wheel tractor-trailers and 29 tons for smaller box trucks, with a sufficiency rating of 47.9. It is classified as structurally deficient in the National Bridge Inventory program.

This bridge is part of the Transportation Cabinet’s Bridging Kentucky program. Bridges selected for the program include more than 1,000 state, county, and municipal structures that are rated in poor condition or have restricted weight limits. Each bridge addressed by the program will either be replaced with a new structure designed to last at least 75 years, or rehabilitated to extend its life by at least 30 years. Those with restricted weight limits will reopen to school buses, emergency vehicles, and commercial trucks. For more information on the Bridging Kentucky program, visit www.BridgingKentucky.com.
