KY 1812 in northern Breathitt County to be closed for bridge replacement project

JACKSON, KY – KY 1812 in northern Breathitt County will be closed beginning Monday, Sept. 23, for a bridge replacement project that is a part of the state's Bridging Kentucky initiative.

The bridge at milepoint 14.3 crossing Hurst Fork, also known as Johnson Fork, will be closed for 45 days. The new bridge is scheduled to be open by Nov. 7.

The project location is less than 1 mile north of KY 205, and approximately one-half mile south of KY 1419. It is slightly more than two miles south of the Wolfe County line.

Drivers can use KY 205, KY 15, and KY 1261 via Bethany in Wolfe County as an alternate route around the closure. A signed detour will be posted.

The existing bridge has a posted weight limit of 25 tons for 18-wheel tractor-trailers and 21 tons for smaller box trucks, with a sufficiency rating of 54.3.

This bridge is part of the Transportation Cabinet's Bridging Kentucky program. Bridges selected for the program include more than 1,000 state, county, and municipal structures that are rated in poor condition or have restricted weight limits. Each bridge addressed by the program will either be replaced with a new structure designed to last at least 75 years, or rehabilitated to extend its life by at least 30 years. Those with restricted weight limits will reopen to school buses, emergency vehicles, and commercial trucks. For more information on the Bridging Kentucky program, visit www.BridgingKentucky.com.
