Magoffin County bridge to be dedicated in memory of late educator Paul W. Rowe
Event scheduled for Friday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. at Magoffin County Health Department
JACKSON, KY – Magoffin County residents are invited to join state and local officials, and family members of the late Paul W. Rowe, at a ceremony to dedicate the new KY 30 bridge crossing the Middle Fork of the Licking River. The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Magoffin County Health Department's Community Room on Friday, Sept. 28.
State Rep. Paul Blanton introduced a resolution in the 2018 regular session of the Kentucky General Assembly to name the bridge for Rowe, a longtime Magoffin County educator who was killed in 1990 in an automobile accident at the old bridge.
Construction on the new $2.2 million bridge began in 2015, and was completed the following year. The new bridge replaced a span that was built in 1932 and was considered functionally obsolete due to narrow travel lanes and reduced sight distance. It is located at milepoint 7.5 on KY 30 near Hendricks, just south of the Mountain Parkway at Exit 72.
