Transportation Cabinet to seek bids on project to improve KY 15 in Perry County

JACKSON, KY – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is moving forward with plans to improve the busiest section of highway in the 10-county Department of Highways District 10.

Bids will be opened in Frankfort on Dec. 8 on a project to widen a stretch of KY 15 between the Hazard Bypass and Morton Boulevard in Perry County, just north of downtown Hazard.

When completed, the project will feature a grade-separated interchange with Morton Boulevard, a redesigned interchange with KY 80 and KY 550 (Combs Road), and a realigned intersection with Perry Park Road. The existing highway will be widened to four lanes.

A final alignment was chosen after a series of public meetings at which affected property owners, motorists who use the route, and other stakeholders were informed and consulted with about the project.

More than 30,000 vehicles per day use this portion of KY 15, making it the most heavily traveled segment of highway in District 10.

Once construction begins, drivers will be able to obtain information about traffic impacts on District 10’s Facebook and Twitter accounts by following the hashtag #KY15Project. This hashtag is already in use to inform motorists of traffic delays on the KY 15 project currently under construction near Bonnyman, which adjoins the upcoming project.

More information about the project, including the advertisement for bids by highway construction contractors, can be found on the KYTC Division of Construction Procurement website at https://go.usa.gov/xnDSA.
