*Inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances may occur, so the information below is strictly of an advisory nature and is subject to change with no notice.

Pothole patching, sweeping, drain & ditch work, litter pick up, brush clearing, culvert repairs and additional work by our KYTC maintenance crews may occur on major interstates/state routes during non-peak daytime hours and at night.

Motorists should watch for roadside maintenance on interstates/highways throughout the district DAILY. We will send out information to the public if these tasks require significant impacts to traffic.

Follow KYTC District 6 social media for the latest updates on the rest of the projects below. Facebook or Twitter. To subscribe to District 6 press releases, please click HERE.

Note: Due to us being in the winter months, progress on several of the listed projects below is weather dependent, minimal and some projects are even on hold until Spring 2026. Some of the projects listed below require tasks that can only be completed in warmer temperatures (i.e, striping, asphalt work, etc.). We’re keeping the report as up-to-date as possible, but know that some of this work is very weather dependent, hence further out completion dates.

I-275 CARROLL CROPPER BRIDGE UPDATES

ZONE PAINTING PROJECT
On Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, KYTC announced a zone painting project to minimize future traffic interruptions and maintain the condition of a critical crossing ahead of the Brent Spence Corridor project construction.

Zone painting is a necessary maintenance practice for steel bridges to project against corrosion, particularly in vulnerable areas such as floor beams and beneath joints, or where existing paint has deteriorated. The process involves cleaning and repainting only the affected sections to prevent the spread of rust and extend the overall life of the structure.

A temporary speed limit reduction of 55 MPH is currently in place. A queue warning system has also been installed on both sides of the river to warn motorists of any stopped or slowed traffic on/near the bridge.

Due to an additional repair of a concrete floor beam, the completion date for the zone painting project has been pushed back six days, from March 31, 2026 to now April 6, 2026; however, the contractor is anticipating the remainder of the work will continue into May.

KYTC has come to an agreement with the contractor to alleviate congestion during peak travel times. Following the April 6 contract date, the bridge will reopen daily between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., with the contractor performing night work. Motorists should expect a single eastbound right lane closure between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Intermittent weekend daytime lane closures may be necessary as part of this work. The contractor has scheduled work on Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12 to be extended to 11 a.m. All lanes must reopen by 11 a.m. daily.

STEEL REPAIR WORK
This work is now complete.

***

The emergency weight limits for the Carroll Cropper Bridge as part of the past bridge repair project have now been removed.

Overweight Over-Dimensional vehicles are permitted when no lane restrictions are in place.

The KY 8 Licking River Bridge between Covington and Newport in Kenton and Campbell counties was closed to all users on Monday, Jan. 12 at 9 a.m. The previous bridge span was demolished using a controlled blast on Monday, March 2, making way for a new signature bridge that will provide a safer crossing for vehicles, pedestrians, bus riders, and bicyclists.

On Thursday, March 5, the Licking River reopened following the contractor's work to remove all portions of the bridge.

A signed detour is in place utilizing the Girl Scout Bridge (KY 1120/MLK Jr. Blvd./11th Street in Newport). An all-stop condition will be in place at Fourth and Garrard Streets in Covington.
