Traffic Advisory: Concrete work to impact KY 180, I-64 interchange traffic in Boyd County
Part of $454,000 KYTC improvement project

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (March 29, 2016) – Concrete pavement installation will require one-lane traffic and other restrictions at the KY 180 and I-64 interchange at Cannonsburg in Boyd County for the next two months.

The $454,000 Kentucky Transportation Cabinet highway improvement project includes replacing rutted asphalt pavement at the westbound I-64 off and on ramps at KY 180 and on all lanes of KY 180 at the ramp intersection.

Work starts Friday, April 1, and will take place around the clock on weekends through April and early May, with additional work on weekdays through late May and early June. Specific project phases, with traffic changes and estimated dates, include:

-          April 1-3 and April 8-10 @ West I-64 off ramp (Exit 185) to KY 180: All left and right-turn traffic restricted to one lane 6 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday each weekend for blacktop removal and concrete pours.

-          April 29-May 1 and May 6-8 @ On ramp from West KY 180 to West I-64 and left-turn lane on West KY 180: The on ramp and KY 180 left-turn lane will be closed to all traffic this weekend for concrete work. Vehicles on KY 180 approaching from the underpass going toward Cannonsburg must proceed straight and turn around to access the westbound I-64 on ramp from eastbound KY 180, which will remain open.

-          May 9-21 and May 23-June 4 @ KY 180: One-lane traffic will be maintained each direction on KY 180 for concrete work on all thru lanes and shoulders. Watch for lane shifts.

Guardrail, striping and other finishing touches on the project will take place throughout June. Motorists should reduce speeds, and watch for intermittent lane closures and flagged traffic at all times.

All construction dates are subject to change depending upon the weather and other factors. Signs and message boards will indicate schedule and traffic changes.

Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.

Work on the project is being done by Mountain Enterprises, Inc., under a $453,987 low-bid Transportation Cabinet contract. The project has a June 30 completion date.
