Traffic on new Flemingsburg Bypass early week of Nov. 3; changes at KY 11, KY 57 intersections
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Oct. 29, 2014) – Traffic could be flowing on the northern extension of the Flemingsburg Bypass (KY 57) as early as next week, and that means changes for KY 11 and KY 57 motorists.
Contractors are currently finishing up guardrail, paving and striping, and connections to intersecting roadways. To complete the work, traffic must be switched onto the new bypass. Contractors expect that switch to occur early next week, the week of Nov. 3, at which time traffic will begin using the new two-mile highway and the newly-installed traffic signals at the KY 11-Maysville Road intersection will become fully operational.
The new bypass will then be KY 57, connecting the existing Flemingsburg Bypass and KY 11 to KY 57 north of the city thusly:
- Traffic on southbound KY 57 from Mount Carmel-Tollesboro will continue onto the new bypass (KY 57) at a “Y” intersection at Sleepy Run Creek without making any turns. Access to old KY 57 (KY 57X) into downtown will be maintained via a left-turn lane. Bypass (KY 57) traffic may continue south to intersect KY 11-Maysville Road at the existing Flemingsburg Bypass.
- Traffic on existing northbound KY 11 Flemingsburg Bypass coming from the hospital area can access the new bypass (KY 57) at the four-way traffic signal north of downtown Flemingsburg. Traffic may turn left toward Maysville, right toward downtown or straight to continue on north KY 57 toward Mount Carmel-Tollesboro.
- Northbound traffic on old KY 57 (KY 57X) from downtown will intersect the new bypass (KY 57) at a stop sign. Traffic must yield to cross traffic, then may either turn left onto the bypass (KY 57) to the KY 11 intersection or turn right toward Mount Carmel-Tollesboro.
- Cherry Grove Road (KY 597) will intersect the new bypass (KY 57) at a new two-way stop. Motorists should remember that Cherry Grove Road traffic must stop at the bypass intersection, and yield to thru traffic on the bypass. When the intersection is clear, Cherry Grove Road traffic may continue straight to the KY 597-KY 11 intersection downtown or turn left onto KY 57 toward Mount Carmel-Tollesboro or right toward the KY 11-Maysville Road intersection.
Exact schedules for the traffic changes are dependent upon weather and other factors. Motorists should drive carefully and watch message boards for specific announcements, and remain aware that construction will continue for several weeks after the new bypass opens and traffic lane shifts remain possible.
