Work begins on $2 million safety project along KY 2 in Greenup County
Starting week of March 4
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Feb. 26, 2019) – A $2 million Transportation Cabinet project to improve safety along four miles of KY 2 in Greenup County starts next week, the week of March 4.
The project will take place on KY 2 between its US 23 intersection and the Little Sandy River bridge – mile markers 17 to 13. Work will include rebuilding parts of the roadway to remove dips and make other repairs, replacing cross drains, installing T-rail to fix embankment slips, cutting trees alongside the highway to ensure sight distance and clear zones, and paving with new blacktop.
Contractors expect to start Monday, March 4, with tree cutting and other work. Motorists should expect intermittent one-lane traffic controlled by flaggers during weekday working hours, approximately 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. now through summer, with possible overnight lane closures at times.
Once complete, the project should provide improved highway design to reduce the risk of crashes and increase safety.
Work is being done by Mountain Enterprises Inc. under a $2,018,845.64 Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) contract awarded by the Transportation Cabinet. Contractors have until Oct. 30, 2019, to complete the project.
Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
