(February 2026) KY 3005 to KY 434:
KY 251 Widening Project Ready to Begin in Hardin County
Two-year widening project will be complete late 2027
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (February 3, 2026) – A project to improve KY 251 (Shepherdsville Road) from KY 3005 (Ring Road) to KY 434 (Battle Training Road) is set to begin within the next week. Driving lanes currently vary from 9.0 to 9.5 feet wide and shoulders are currently minimal, leaving very little recovery area for motorists. The project is awarded to Dirt Works Unlimited, LLC in the amount of $11.045 million. It involves widening the existing road and shoulders along with reconstruction of the intersection at KY 3005, converting the signal to a roundabout.
Initial work the remainder of this winter includes right of way clearing, followed by earth work this spring. Base layers of the road will be constructed this year, with final surface work taking place in 2027. The contract completion date is October 1st, 2027.
Traffic will be initially impacted with lane closures and flaggers during clearing work. The speed limit is also reduced along the corridor.
Updates will be posted as various phases of traffic impacts take place throughout the project. Follow @kytcdistrict4 on social media for updates.
