Interstate 65 in Louisville will close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) from June 1- July 31 to speed progress on replacing 3 aging bridges.
The closure will save at least a year of construction restrictions, and a signed detour will be in place. Local street closures and ramp closures will also be needed.

U.S. 42 Improvements (from the bridge over Harrods Creek to River Road) - 5-972

PurposeThis project aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve mobility, and enhance safety along U.S. 42 from the bridge over Harrods Creek to River Road. The need for the project is generally derived from the current traffic congestion on U.S. 42, combined with the projected future traffic volumes and high crash rates.
Project Scope

Implement safety and mobility enhancements on U.S. 42 from the eastern end of the bridge over Harrods Creek to just east of River Road.

The design work is being conducted following the 2022 Planning Study completed by the City of Prospect and the early 2011 design work completed by KYTC.

Currently, the project scope includes Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Analysis to address four build alternatives. Should a build alternative be advanced, the scope will then move to the final design phase.

Alternatives/Build Options

The five alternatives currently under consideration include:

Alternative 1:

Alternative 2:
Alternative 3:
Alternative 4:
Alternative 5:
