Interstate 65 in Louisville will close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) from June 1- July 31 to speed progress on replacing 3 aging bridges.
The closure will save at least a year of construction restrictions, and a signed detour will be in place. Local street closures and ramp closures will also be needed.

However, the impact and influence of regional groundwater flow at the site is not provided in the Contract Documents. Grouting may be perform in the “wet” provided precautions/provisions are taken to ensure the requirements of the program are achieved. These precautions/provisions shall be included in the required grout plan submittal. If grouting in the “wet” cannot be performed, provisions for performing grouting in the dry shall be included.

An alternate hold down concept will be provided as information only. This alternate hold down concept was used during the Ohio River Bridge Project (ORB) project. If this concept is chosen for the hold down, then the proof load testing of the Gen 2 anchors will not be required as it is independent of the anchors. Any hold down concept used by the contractor, other than the one detailed in the plans using the Gen 2 anchors, will require a professional engineer (PE) registered in KY to stamp the alternate hold down concept and be responsible for the design in accordance with Standard Specification Section 607.03.16. The Contractor shall submit the concept to KYTC for review and approval. The ultimate completion date to remain as October 31, 2025. The jacking support shown on plans sheets S7 and S8 are required with both the current recommended hold down concept in the plans and the alternative hold down concept provide as a reference and used previously on ORB.

At Pier 6L, the northeast rod at DS bearing and the northwest rod at US bearing are expected to be placed be against the pier cap to accommodate fit up. During the bridge inspection a plumb bob was used to check that a vertical orientation of the rod would pass by the pier cap.

Ride quality will be applied per Standard Specification Section 410. The Department will test after surface is complete or a portion is completed to the extent that the Engineer deems it necessary. Any subsequent testing of a previously tested section will be charged per specification.

The ramp can be closed but only at night (8:00 pm to 6:00 am). They should also notify emergency services if they close the ramp down due to the proximity to the hospital.

Regarding plan sheet R5, there appears to be guardrail on both sides of the diversion in the drawing but no details. Is this guardrail required for the diversion, and, if so, how will it be paid?
The intent is to provide a requirement for maintaining traffic and general guidance for a diversion. The final configuration including actual location, height, pipe length, use of guard rail, etc. is left to the contractor. The contractor should bid for providing a low water crossing that is maintained and open to local traffic at all times. The diversion must comply to all current standards and specifications. All costs associated with constructing and removing this diversion will be incidental to the bid item “Maintain and Control Traffic”.

Recommendations for the embankment protection on the KY River/West Dam is provided on Typical Section Sheet R2L. Fill placement in the KY River is expected to occur when the river level is at or below normal pool. Durable sandstone (>= 24”) shall be placed up to at least El. 705’ per the Typical Section, and slope protection shall be underlain by fabric-geotextile.

The bid item “Clean and Paint Structural Steel” applies to all labor and materials associated with cleaning and painting the existing beams, cross-frames, and other ancillary components of the structural steel superstructure.

Plan sheet R25 of the plans show full reinforcement cages being installed over top of Concrete Median Barrier Box Inlets. Typically, full cages are not required for slip formed walls over top of median boxes per standard drawings RDB-231 and RDB-241.   Will this be revised?

Everything will be incidental to the Clearing and Grubbing bid item. There is an additional 2,000 L.F. of FENCE-WOVEN WIRE TYPE 1 quantity to be used in instances where the ROW fence is potentially damaged when clearing near it.
