Flextime


 
Flextime is a type of work schedule that allows employees to adjust the time they begin and end work, while, offering employers an opportunity to reduce traffic congestion.

For many people in New Jersey, the commute to work is a hassle, made more difficult by time-consuming traffic congestion. The good news is that the ride to work can be made easier. Employers can work with their local Transportation Management Association, or TMA, to identify alternative ways for their employees to commute such as carpooling, telecommuting, and flex hours.

Work schedule changes or variable work hours is one transportation control measure which may effectively reduce congestion and improve air quality. Work hour policies are determined by employers, who are therefore the key entity in making work schedule changes. Three implementation options - staggered work hours, flextime, and a compressed work week - are discussed.
