Can the scales on the plans be checked and confirmed they are correct?
The Horizontal and Vertical scales labeled as 1”=X’ are developed based on a full-size set of plans. Printing at smaller sizes will vary the scale, which is typical of roadway plans. However, a bar scale was provided for verification and is correct regardless of the size printed.

Project Phasing – The first sentence in the “Northbound - (Phase II, Phase IIA, and Phase III)” section shall be revised. Can a section detail be provided for the RSG mentioned in note 1 of the paving summary on plan sheet R2J?
In the “Maintenance of Traffic Construction Access” locations, chemical stabilization cannot be performed. The project was estimated to require 3 access gates resulting in 31,000 square yards of planar area deducted from the chemical stabilization and 18,300 tons of crushed aggregate No. 2 added in replacement. The 18,300 tons of aggregate was estimated as follows with the assumption of 98 lbs/sy/in or 1.77 tons/cy. The cross section requested would just be the removal of the 8” layer of chemical stabilization and the addition of a 12” layer of crushed aggregate underneath the dense grade. The longitudinal saw cut is specified as thirty(30) feet from the centerline. Based on the old plans, in a typical section, this location should coincide with the break point between the driving lanes and the inside shoulder. The existing “striped” edge line may not be at the same location throughout the project.

Contrary to Sepia 042, project phasing and plan sheets, the Concrete Median Barrier TL5 56” shall be installed prior to the final asphalt surface layer. The finished wall shall have a minimum height of 56” above the final surface. Steel placement shall remain the same as indicated on Sepia 042 when measured from the top of the barrier wall. Additional concrete will be required at the bottom of the wall to maintain the finished exposed height of 56”.

Pertaining to the added lane. there are inconsistencies between each plan set . Plan set for SYP NO 05-00065.40 specifies wedging on the inside shoulder and added lane.  However, plan set for SYP 05-00475.00 does not specify leveling & wedging on the added lane or inside shoulder.
Both plan sets require some amount of leveling and wedging. Project SYP NO 05-00475.00 does not depict it visually in the pavement detail but is addressed in note #4 on plan sheet R002.

Can the quantities for the two alternate backfill methods at WB STA 2481+47 to EB STA 2482+07 be confirmed?
The quantities were calculated per the width and length of fill over the culvert detailed on plan sheets R063 and R064. Average area end method was used from cross sections that were taken over the culvert. Payment for both the CELLULAR CONCRETE FILL and the EPS GEOFOAM FILL will be made on the basis of the plan quantities. No separate field measurements will be made. The final quantities will be the design plan quantities increased or decreased by authorized change. See Note #4 on plan sheets R063 and R064.

During the demolition of bridge KY 1790, Zaring Road, and KY 53, the plans say that I-64 can be closed for one period. Can the Contractor close during the minimum traffic volumes for multiple nights?
I-64 closure for bridge demolition of KY 1790, Zaring Road and KY 53 shall be performed during one period of Low Volume hours as noted on plan sheet R081 (SYP 05-00475 Plans) for each bridge per each direction. Traffic detour plans shall be submitted to the Engineer for review and approval a minimum of two weeks prior for each operation.

The total closure for KY 1790 shall not exceed 120 calendar days. The total closure for KY 2861 shall not exceed 90 calendar days. Contractors should be accordingly.

Lane Closure note B on plan sheet R84 of plan set 05-00065.40 states that "No lane closure shall extend more than two(2) miles in length". Can this lane closure be extended for the full length of the project to facilitate MOT, striping, and shoulder corrugation removal and replacement?
Lane closure more than two(2) miles will be considered by the Engineer. The awarded Contractor may submit a request to the Engineer, for review and possible approval, to extend the lane closure length.

The requirements on page 71-72 of the proposal are a portion of the Traffic Control Plan for 05-22028 project(pages 67-72). The Traffic Control Coordinator requirements on pages 71 and 72 of the proposal are specific to the 5-22028 portion of the contract. The requirements located in the 05-00065.4 and 05-00475 plans are specific to the widening sections.

The removal of the existing barrier, crash cushion, etc. to allow for the construction of a temporary crossover south of KY 35 will be considered incidental to the bid item MAINTAIN & CONTROL TRAFFIC. Removal of the existing barrier wall will be from approximately Station 2754+80 to Station 2764+33.

Plan sheet S8 shows a minimum deck thickness of 8”, but the beam orientation constitutes a composite deck which is normally 5” thick with one mat of steel. Is the deck thickness correct, and should there be another mat of steel?
The deck thickness is correct as shown. There are two layers of steel reinforcement. See callouts on typical and plan sections, plan sheet S8 for location and spacing. Note the additional steel S3E over the pier in the top mat.

The contract documents state that the contractor only has 120 days to complete the work but the railroad allowances are for 180 days since the bridge remains open to traffic can the contractor have more time to complete the work?
Contrary to page 45 of the proposal, the Contractor will be allowed 180 days to complete the project once work begins. However, all work must be completed no later than 11/1/2025 regardless of when the Contractor choses to begin.

Contrary to Specifications, DITCHING will be paid based on the centerline length of roadway, which will include ditching construction on both sides of the roadway. Otherwise, all requirements of Standard Specifications 209 will apply.

The trench gets five inches of Crushed Stone Base, 2-three-inch lifts of CL2 Asph Base 0.75D PG76-22. Perforated pipe will go in the Crushed Stone Base, 200 ft of it around each headwall which will be located in the field.

The CRASH CUSHION TY VI CLASS BT TL3 bid item states on plan sheet R21 is for temp barrier wall.  Are these for the gates?  if not, where are they to be installed?
Locations are indicated on the Maintenance of Traffic plans. Temporary crash cushions in gate areas are incidental to the “Maintain and Control Traffic” bid item as indicated on the construction access details and the Maintenance of Traffic general notes. Temporary crash cushions should be utilized at any location where oncoming traffic could strike a blunt end or termini of temporary barrier wall.
