Lifting eyes are allowed to be welded to the edge of the plates using fillet welds. The weldment must follow the requirements in the AASHTO/AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code, current edition. The weld shall be classified as fracture critical and meet requirements of Section 12 – AASHTO/AWS Fracture Control Plan (FCP) for Nonredundant Members. The weld will be considered temporary and removed in accordance with Section 12.13 of the Bridge Welding Code and Nondestructive Tested (NDT) in the area of the weld after its removal. Contractor shall submit the proposed attachment with the repair plate shop drawings to the Engineer for review and approval.

There will be no revision to quantities. Paving limits are approximated, and final paving limits will be set in the field by the Engineer. The Contractor shall propose full depth excavation limits to Engineer prior to removal. New full depth pavement is required only where existing full depth pavement is excavated to remove and replace the superstructure. Outside the full depth area, as approved by the Engineer, the existing pavement shall be overlaid with surface to bring the grade of the roadway up to meet the grade of the structure. The Contractor is responsible for reviewing the project plans and site to accurately assess the paving required and should prepare their bid accordingly.

Concerning plan sheet S19, the remove portion of strut web has a dimension of 6 1/8 inch on the top side with an asterisk indicating “Approximate removal limits of strut web.  Dimensions may be adjusted slightly as needed.”  What if this is not wide enough to install the all thread rods and then slide the 4 ½ plate past the thread rods inside the “remove portion”?
The dimension in question on plan sheet S19 may require additional removal of the top lateral bracing web and the Department will accept up to 2” of additional cut back to facilitate the passing of the splice plates. If the additional cut back is done, the Contractor shall make up the design splice plate thickness with 3 – 1 ½” plates.

Cross Sections showing benches at varying elevations as moving up stations that will need to transition from one elevation to another between the provided cross sections ie. 1090’ up to 1095’.  That transition is not shown.  Is this a step up and what determines where that will take place?
The bench at elevation 1090 at station 106+00 will gradually grade consistently upwards to elevation 1095 at station 111+00.
