12-1027 | 300 | Perry | The Paving Summary sheets and drawing sheets 40 & 41 of 157 show a CL3 1.5D PG64-22 mix and the Bid Item sheet (Bid Item 70) lists CL3 1.00D PG64-22. Please specify which mix is intended to be used. |

12-1027 | 300 | Perry | The Paving Area Summary sheet page 16 of 157 shows a total of 86,077.37 square yards of CL3 ASPH BASE 1.50D PG64-22 at a 4.5” thickness. This calculates to 21,304.15 Tons at 110lb/SY/in of depth. The Paving Summary sheet 17 of 157 and the bid item sheet (Bid Item 70) shows 19,584.47 Tons. This leaves a remaining 1,719.68 Tons unaccounted for. |
Please refer to sheet 31/157 for the following explanations. The original paving quantity computation for this section assumed the raised median (14’ wide, 3” height) will be removed and replace with a layer of asphalt base. The typical section was later revised to keep the existing raised median and overlay with Level and Wedge. Instead of revising the paving area summary, I deduct a quantity of 1720 tons of asphalt base to reflect the above revision. The computation was based on 6700 feet (approx. length of raised median on the tangent section) x 14’ (raised median) / 9 = 10422 sq yd; 10422 sq yd x 3” x 110 /2000 = 1720 ton.

12-1341 | 318 | Carroll | The language in the “Proposal Note” in Addendum #1 is confusing. It states now work in the area Covered by the COE permit can be initiated until “the Receipt of the permit by the Contractor.” It appears the COE NWP No. 14 and the KY DOW Water Quality Certification documents are both included in the project proposal. Please explain. |
The language concerning the permit was inadvertently included in Addendum #1. KYTC has receipt of the permit; all documents have been included in the proposal and therefore all work under that permit can be begin as soon as the contractor receives their notice to proceed.

12-1337 | 301 | Jackson | The Geotechnical Notes Number 15, does not allow for the use of Non - Durable shale above or below the RDZ in the Sub grade, based on the Core log information, it does not seem, that there are sufficient amounts of durable shale and/or sandstone material available for construction of the Sub grade and other areas encountered (I.e. Saturated, Unstable, ) that would require 4.0'feet of Durable Shale and/or Sandstone. Has the department generated any computations( earthwork calculations) that would show that there are sufficient amounts of Durable Shale and/or Sandstone to complete the sub grade as stated in the Geo notes |
Sandstone or Durable Shale (SDI >= 95) are required in Geotechnical Notes # 6, 7, 11, and 15. The thickness of rock required for Notes # 6, 7 and 11 is a minimum of two feet. The thickness of rock required for subgrade in Note # 15 is two feet. Non-durable shale may be used in the embankment below that depth, if placed according to the Standard Specifications. Based on information used during the design phase, sufficient sandstone and durable shale quantities appear to be available for all geotechnical uses. The Contractor will be required to stockpile the sandstone and durable shale so that sufficient quantities are available for the areas requiring this material (see Geotechnical Note # 16).
