Traffic Advisory: Rest areas on I-64 in Rowan County closed Friday
Interstate paving nearly complete

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (June 6, 2018) – The I-64 rest areas at Morehead will close temporarily on Friday as a $2 million interstate resurfacing project in Rowan County nears completion.

On Friday morning, contractors will begin removing old blacktop and repaving each rest area's access roads, and will finish paving the right lanes of eastbound and westbound I-64 between Exit 137 at Morehead and the 142 mile marker. The rest areas are expected to reopen Friday afternoon.

Work began May 14 on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet improvement project that will replace nearly 4 miles of interstate blacktop in Rowan County.

While major pavement work is finishing up, paint striping, and installation of rumble strips and pavement markers remain. Lane closures and speed-limit reductions will remain in place the next few weeks. Motorists should watch electronic message boards for schedule and lane changes, watch for narrow lanes, and drive carefully by remaining aware of workers and construction equipment at all times.

The work is being done under a $2,057,150.64 Transportation Cabinet contract awarded to Hinkle Contracting Company LLC. The contractor has until June 30 to complete the project.
