Morehead-Rowan County KY 32 Improvement Study

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and its consultants are studying the roadway conditions and potential improvements to KY 32 (Flemingsburg Road) in Rowan County between the KY 377 intersection near the schools and downtown Morehead. An online public survey has been completed and the study is being finalized.

Purpose & Need

This portion of KY 32 carries a mix of local and regional traffic as it connects I-64 to regional traffic generators such as Morehead State University and St. Claire Regional Medical Center. The City of Morehead provides a regional hub for shopping and education, resulting in traffic volumes on KY 32 between 15,000 and 30,000 vehicles per day. As one of but a few growing communities in eastern Kentucky, traffic demand is anticipated to continue growing. The study is needed to identify possible improvement concepts or strategies to address traffic operational and safety issues that result from the combination of heavy traffic volumes, signalized intersections, and access concerns.
