Replacement of KY 1 Bridge Over Lost Creek in Greenup County Starts in August
A $900,000 Bridging Kentucky project

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (July 24, 2020) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will replace the KY 1 bridge over Lost Creek in Greenup County this summer under a $900,000 Bridging Kentucky project.

Contractors expect to start work in August, which will include rebuilding the old bridge – one lane at a time – just south of the KY 784 intersection (milepoint 1.1) by constructing a new, longer-lasting structure.

For two months beginning Aug. 3, all traffic on KY 1 will be restricted to one lane across the bridge and controlled by temporary signals. Also, a 9-foot width restriction will be in place throughout construction. Vehicles or loads over 9 feet wide should detour. Electronic message boards announcing the restrictions are now in place. Motorists should expect delays.

The project is being done by the Frederick and May Construction Company under a $927,412.60 low-bid Transportation Cabinet contract through the Bridging Kentucky program.

The Bridging Kentucky program is a commitment to improving safety and soundness of the Commonwealth's bridges by rehabilitating, repairing, or replacing critical bridges throughout the state. The program is designed to open closed structures, improve bridge lifespans, ensure appropriate weight capacities are met, and improve access and mobility for all Kentuckians.
