Traffic Advisory: Emergency Slide Repairs on KY 2 in Greenup County Start Monday
Slide repair on KY 1459 postponed

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (May 1, 2020) – Inclement weather and further slide damage on KY 2 has changed highway repair schedules in Greenup County.

Crews and contractors will postpone slide repairs on KY 1459, which was delayed this week due to weather, and instead will start work Monday on an emergency repair of KY 2 on the Greenup side of the Little Sandy River bridge. The KY 2 slide area there is showing increased damage.

Beginning Monday, May 4, KY 2 will be closed at milepoint 13.8 between Tortoise Street and Lea Acres Road about a half mile east of the Little Sandy River bridge and KY 3307 as crews excavate and rebuild a section of roadway that's slipping away with the embankment. Work will require KY 2 to remain closed there day and night for about five days – until May 8, if weather is favorable, or the week after if not.

During the closure, all thru traffic on KY 2 must detour using KY 3307 (Whetstone) or using KY 1 to KY 1459. Traffic needing access to or from Greenup and Tortoise Street, Cardinal Point, Allcorn Road or other destinations west (Warnock side) of the work area should use the detour or seek alternate routes.

Slide repair work on KY 1459 between Messer Road and Carter Hollow (milepoints 2.36-2.55) will resume as soon as possible, and will also require a multiple-day road closure. A construction schedule and detour will be announced before work begins.

All road work subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
